And here's another Polka Fest that's happening this weekend!

Dance your troubles away at the 6^th Annual Duncanfest. Duncan, Iowa, a small Czech village nestled in the beautiful Iowa countryside, is home to Duncanfest. The festivities are held in the gorgeous Duncan Community Ballroom, where superb old time dance music is the priority. Four well-known bands will take the stage.

Dancing starts at noon, Sat. Sept. 13^th, with the hometown band, Malek’s Fishermen. Malek’s Band is a crowd pleaser that has been playing since the 1930’s. Alternating with Malek’s is the talented Gary’s Ridgeland Dutchmen. Hailing from Cashton, WI, this band travels the Midwest featuring the concertina styling of Gary W. Brueggen as well as the legendary bass horn player and Gary’s father, Willard Brueggen. The evening shift will bring on another Wisconsin band, Karl’s Country Dutchmen, from 7:30-11 PM. This high-energy band really gets the crowd going with a great mix of concertina, brass, and an awesome rhythm section.

Sunday morning, Sept. 14^th, things start early at 8 AM with Malek’s Fishermen Band playing for the polka Mass at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, which is across the street from the ballroom. A breakfast buffet at the ballroom will follow the Mass. Dancing starts back up at noon with Minnestota’s own Riverside Dutchmen. Under the direction of Harvey Becker, the Riverside Dutchmen are one of the few full-size bands can truly play the New Ulm Dutchmen style. Switching off with Harvey will be the featured band of the weekend, Karl’s Country Dutchmen, from Trempealeau, WI, playing until 6 PM.

The annual queen contest will be held Sunday. The reigning queen, Nancy Buckentine, will sadly be passing her crown onto a credentialed recipient. The Duncan Ballroom is an air-conditiond ballroom with a 50 by 75 foot hardwood dance floor. Full Czech meals will be served daily, and a full bar is open for your pleasure. The Duncan Campground is located next to the ballroom and is a fun place to spend the weekend.
