Hi polka fans, Kathy and I went down to the Hessen Haus again this weekend to see Malek's Fishermen play. Again they were short their first horn player, Bob Malek. We sure miss Bob playing in the band. He will need a few more weeks to recover from his surgery. We are looking forward to him returning to the band. Anyway, the band sounded great with Eric leading and Kimberly following up as second horn. Charlie C. from Stratford was playing keyboard and Tuba Don on bass horn. Troy was playing drums. Charlie was telling me that he is scheduled to go in for heart surgery this Tuesday. If anybody knows Charlie you can send a card to him at Mercy in Des Moines.

The band got started at 6 Pm to a couple polkas. Kathy and I had ordered our dinner so we had to wait a little before dancing. As soon as we were done we danced to a couple waltzes. We had about 12 members of our Iowa polka club present. Also, I would like to mention that our own Bob Jackson hit another record in recruiting 10 more members to the polka club. Kathy & I had a chance to meet 3 of these couples. I knew one of them from previous dances. Dennis from Milo, Iowa, and his friend JoAnn from Des Moines who are pictured first row, first picture. Dennis and JoAnn come to many polka dances. Next I would like to feature another couple from Des Moines, Stan and Cindy, first row second picture. I talked to Stan and he said he was amazed that Des Moines had a place to come and listen to this kind of music. I told him what we do in the Polka Club and how much fun it is going to dances and festivals. The third couple pictured in the first row, 3rd picture, is from Traer, Iowa. Erin and Matt are a young couple that enjoy the music and dance. Kathy and I were talking to them about the Czech culture. We talked about eating Kolaches and Rohlicky. I was glad to see another young couple getting involved in their heritage and music. We want to welcome these couples to our polka club and invite them to have fun at all our dances. Another visitor was Hoolerie Louie from northern Iowa who road down with the band. He and his daughter, who is from West Des Moines, are pictured second row, first picture. Louie attends many festivals and is a big fan to the New Ulm Hoolerie style music.

I would like to remind the viewers who visit this website of the up coming events that Kathy and I will be attending. The first one is Friday December 12, at Traer, Iowa. It is the annual Cedar Valley Christmas dinner dance. It will be held at the Memorial Building from 8 PM to midnight with Malek's Fisherman entertaining. Then the following night on the 13, Barry Boyce will be at the Hessen Haus from 6 Pm till 10 Pm. Friday, December 19, Malek's Fisherman will be playing at the Hessen Haus. On Saturday December 20, Becky and The Ivenhoe Dutchmen will be at the Hessen Haus from 6PM to 10 PM. We will be looking forward to all these upcoming dances. We hope to see many of our polka club members there.
