Friday night got started off with a campfire jam and about 40 people who attended it. The jam was set up behind Duncan hall where many campers where parked for the evening. Many of our polka friends sat around the fire while several musicians played their instruments. It was a nice peaceful evening. The weather cooperated. The music sounded great. We even had a few rookie musicians trying their luck on the drums. The music went for a couple hours into the evening.

Saturday morning we got up and headed out for Duncan hall. We got there a little after 12:00 PM. Malek's fishermen were up on stage playing their best. Kathy and I danced many songs to Malek's. Next up on stage was Gary's Ridgeland Dutchmen Band out of Cashton Wisconsin. Gary is also known as Wisconsin's Concertina Kid and when you hear him play, you will know why he is called that. Gary and the band sounded great playing lots of polka's, waltz's, & a few fox trots. As you can see by the pictures above a record breaking crowd of 500 people attended this festival. Pictured in the second row far right is last year's Duncan queen, Nancy B. Also we have pictures of some of our own polka members Janet, Vern, John, Lorna, Bob, Sue, Bob, & some others. I also pictured a group of the younger crowd, some from Iowa and others from Minnesota & Wisconsin. A group of people came down from North Dakota. They drove 8 hours to get to Duncan, what devotion to polka music. Then the afternoon went on into the evening when Karl & the Country Dutchmen went up on stage. We danced many more songs into the evening. The music was so good and we where holding up pretty good. Kathy and I stayed right up to the end around 11 PM.

Sunday started off with Malek's doing a polka mass at the Duncan church. All faiths were welcome at the service and they had a pretty good crowd. Duncan had an all you can eat buffet breakfast. Believe me when I tell you the ladies (Gert & Sally) sure put on a good feed all weekend. The many volunteers who helped in the kitchen did an excellent job, also. Bob & Eric Malek organized this festival and did a real good job. I have pictured above the kitchen crew. After the buffet breakfast we waited a little while until the band started up for the 12:00 Pm show. Harvey Becker's Riverside Dutchmen started off the show. Wow, what a band! These guys where Greeeet! They had that New Ulm touch. The Hoolerie's where coming out left and right. We again danced to many more songs. Karl again got up for another set. I was walking around and decided to enter Kathy's name in the Duncan Queen Contest. As it got close to 2:00 Pm Bob Malek called all the contestants up to the stage area for judging. As to everyone's surprise they had a couple comedians dressed up as women to enter the contest. It was hilarious watching these two perform. Then the judging came and to my surprise Kathy won the contest to become this years Duncan Queen. The duties of the Queen are to represent Duncan at all the festivals & Dances through out the year. I was pretty happy for Kathy. She & I will work hard in getting to many of the festivals this year. Along with supporting the Polka Club we have a pretty busy schedule this year. The Duncan fest was a very good turn out and we are looking forward to next year.
